Alvin Purple

The Vic Fair prototype artwork (21"x 29" approx) for this Australian sexploitation film, released in the USA as "The Sex Therapist". It is no great surprise that this design was not used. Though colourful & inventive, Fair's mischievous design was clearly too suggestive, the phallic symbolism being far too obvious. Fair's case was not helped by him adding the tag-line "The permissive society's most upright member"! Irrespective, this remains a piece that bears great testament to Fair's inventive & somewhat subversive wit. For more information, please see Sim Branaghan's book "British Film Posters" (2006) & the excellent Vic Fair interview in which this artwork is also featured: http://www.filmonpaper.com/blog/interview-vic-fair/ The artist has signed this item.
