Sparrows Can't Sing Poster

Scarce poster for this little-known film from 1963 starring Barbara Windsor. Though best-known for her "Carry On" films (& more latterly in "Eastenders"), Barbara Windsor has enjoyed an interesting & varied career both on screen & the stage. "Sparrows Can't Sing" (1963) is a charming British film set & filmed in the East End. The film was penned by Stephen Lewis ("Blakey" from TV's "On The Buses"), directed by Joan Littlewood & numbered the likes of James Booth, Roy Kinnear, Brian Murphy, Bob Grant etc in the cast. One of the Krays drinking dens also features!

Chantrell created the poster for the film, here showing his range & versatility, a photographic composition being preferred to his more normal choice of a painted format. Chantrell's original prototype for the Quad poster is featured on the Chantrell website: http://www.chantrellposter.com/Sparrows-Cant-Sing-Chantrell-Artwork-1963-Original/973

The poster has various tiny conservation repairs to edge nicks, slight pin-hole damage to corners & the white background has "yellowed" with age. Still, a tidy piece that displays very well & is not often available.
