The Breaking of Bumbo Poster

This is a scarce & interesting UK 1-Sheet poster (27"x 40") for the little-known British comedy "The Breaking of Bumbo" (1970), the film starring Richard Warwick & Joanna Lumley.

The film featured a young Guardsman (Warwick) who is beguiled by snakeskin trousered Ms.Lumley, setting up a clash between military discipline & the establishment with the bohemian counter-culture of the times. The poster design encapsulates the downfall of the soldier ensnared by distractions of the opposite sex.

The film was beset with problems at the outset, the original directors being ditched & the screenwriter Andrew Sinclair brought into direct instead. The film "premiered" at an exhibition at the Roundhouse but was poorly received & EMI promptly shelved plans to give the film a cinema release. It was not until 1975 that it was shown on TV but here we have a curio of a cinema poster for a film never shown in UK cinemas.

Poster unfolded with very slight "yellowing" to areas of upper rim but obviously unused & overall in very good condition. A fascinating piece of British cinema history.
