The Man Who Watched Trains Go By Poster

A lovely poster for this 1952 example of Film-Noir, based on a novel by Georges Simenon. Telling the twisted tale of industrial espionage, murder & evasion, the film is set (& was filmed) in both Amsterdam & Paris. Though an Anglo-American production, the cast was distinctly cosmopolitan, including Marta Torren, Herbert Loom, Amok Aimee etc.

The poster illustration is a spectacular affair but unfortunately the artist's identity remains unknown. The choice of dark elemental colours helps conjure a suitable sense of mystery & intrigue. The "trailed" film title cleverly mimics the sight-line from a moving train window, whilst the beautiful image of Swedish actress, Marta Toren, flags the love interest in the film. A potent design & a very good example of early 1950's cinema poster illustration.

The poster has been linen-backed but was anyway in superb condition.
