Vice Versa Poster

"Vice Versa" was an early post-war British comedy directed by Peter Ustinov & witnessing very early roles for both Petula Clark & Anthony Newley. The poster design is distinctive & reminiscent of certain Ealing comedy Quad illustrations ie, "Laxdale Hall" (1952), the similarity being due to both being designed & illustrated by the esteemed cartoonsist Osbert Lancaster.

Having illustrated posters for London Transport, Lancaster became better known as a cartoonist for the "Daily Express". He also illustrated book jacket covers, stage set designs & occasionally cinema posters. The quality of his work was recognised in later life when he was Knighted in 1975 (one of very few cartoonists to receive this honour) & indeed examples of his artwork & designs form part of the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museumhttp://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O1165129/poster-lancaster-osbert-sir/

The poster has a few minor tape repairs to edge nicks to the reverse but overall remains in excellent condition. An excellent example of an early British comedy Quad with a classy design from an illustrator with real pedigree.
